Acorn et Samuel - Troisième partie Empty
MessageSujet: Acorn et Samuel - Troisième partie   Acorn et Samuel - Troisième partie EmptyLun 7 Juin - 1:36

You are Acorn, a wizard living in the kingdom of Larion. You have a staff and a spellbook. After defeating Zaren, you and your friend ghost Samuel went on the road. You left behind Klemto, Russel and Clovis, and spent several months doing missions. Today, you and Samuel are resting in a forest.
Samuel: "...and so I cast a fire bolt at the koblin leader."
Acorn: "The koblin leader?

> You say "So koblins have leaders?"
Samuel: "Yep, that's how we do things. Anyway, the koblins fell backwards."
Acorn: "Hmm, uh... I keep thinking there are still koblins out there."

> You say "They couldn't just have disappeared like that!"
Samuel: "I don't think they could... Actually I'm a bit concerned."
Acorn: "Me too, we should probably go out there and investigate.

> You stop, and think.
Acorn : That may be a bit difficult to search for something we don't even know that exist.
Samuel: "I know someone who might be able to help us. His name is Kranxx, he's a dwarf and a tracker.

> You say "Where does he live?"
Samuel: "Oh, that's the thing. He doesn't. He's a wanderer. He has been for years, but he's the best one could've hoped for.

> You say "So... We need to search for him too?"
Samuel: "Well, that's the problem. He sometimes disappears for weeks at a time, but always somewhere with a good supply of food and water.

> You say "Let's try to find him! Where did you see him last time?"
Samuel: "I last saw him in the mountains, which is where we should look for him."
Acorn: "OK, but let's not go too high and too far. We don't want to lose him again."
Samuel: "Which mountains?"
Acorn: "The closest mountain range to you, as you're standing in one."
Samuel: "Oh, yeah...

> You and Samuel go toward the mountains. Suddenly, in the darkest part of the forest, you hear an animal whining.
Samuel: "Acorn, stop!"
Acorn: "What is it?"
Samuel: "Listen!"
You listen and hear an animal in pain, it sounds like it's in trouble.
Acorn: "I've heard something like that before.
Acorn : Let look at it!
You and Samuel quietly go toward the whining. You see a camp, with a chained baby hyena, who seemed to have been abused. You and Samuel hide in the bushes.
Samuel: "I bet that's the source of that noise."
Acorn: "It also looks like the source of that smell."

> You look at the camp, to see if someone is here.
Samuel: "We need to save this baby!"
You and Samuel quietly walk towards the camp. As you get closer, the smell gets worse. You and Samuel look at the camp, and there's a man in fur clothes, a half orc, and some other men dressed the same way.

> You look at all the men.
Acorn: "There are a bunch of mean looking men here."
Samuel: "We need to help that baby.

> You say "What do you propose we do?"
Samuel: "We sneak up and free the baby."
Acorn: "That's a good plan, but there's so many men.

> You say "How do we past them without them notice us?"
Samuel: "Not sure, but come on.
You and Samuel go past the camp. The men watch you pass, but don't move. You both look at the chained baby.
Acorn: "I don't like this."
Samuel: "Me either... But we have to save that baby!"
Acorn: "I know...

> You take the chain, but doesn't know how to break it. The baby hyena cries even more.
Samuel helps you pull. The chain is so weak already, that it breaks. The baby howls out of sheer terror.
Samuel: "Come on!"
You walk past the men slowly.

> You take the baby hyena and follow Samuel.
You take the baby and follow Samuel.
Samuel looks back at you, raises his eyebrow, and continues walking. You slowly follow him.
Acorn: "I think it's working."

> You say "The men don't seem to notice us..."
Samuel looks back again, still not walking fast, and shakes his head.
Samuel: "We need to find somewhere safe to hide for a while.

> You say "Where?"
Samuel: "I've been watching the camp, and I think there's a cave over..."
Acorn: "Could work."
You and Samuel walk over to the cave.

> You go in the cave with Samuel.
You and Samuel enter the cave.
Acorn: "I've never been in here..."
Samuel: "It's a safe cave to sleep in, but we need to be alert.

> You put the baby hyena on the ground.
The baby cries.
Samuel: "Don't worry, little one. We'll find your mommy and daddy. I promise."
Acorn: "I hope so, Samuel."

> You cast a minor cure spell on the baby hyena to heal it's wounds.
The baby's wounds heal a bit.
Acorn: "It's really frightened."
Samuel: "I imagine it is, poor little thing."
Acorn: "Do you think it'll survive?"
Samuel: "I think so, but we need to find somewhere safe to keep it.
Acorn: "OK.

> You pat the baby hyena on the head.
The baby stops crying.
Samuel: "I think it likes you."
Acorn: "It seems to like you."
Samuel: "Well, I'm honored.

> You say "Hey baby, we're going to take care of you, don't worry!"
Samuel: "We need to find somewhere safe to take it, and sleep too."
Acorn: "OK, Samuel."
You and Samuel walk.
Acorn: "You said we need to find a safe place, but I don't know of an animal shelter or anything around here...

> You say "Maybe we can keep it?"
Samuel: "We'll keep it, but we need to find a better place."
Acorn: "Oh, OK."
You and Samuel walk.
You, Samuel and the baby hyena arrive in a village.
You say "Wonderful. A village."
Samuel points up at a house. "I think we'll be able to keep a low profile there."
Acorn: "OK."
You enter the house, which is a inn. When you're in there, everyone turns to look at you. You're not very comfortable...
Samuel whispers: "Don't talk, just look pensive and smart."
Acorn: "OK."
Samuel sits down at an empty table. You join him.
Samuel: "Now, we just need to keep a low profile and everything will be well."
Acorn: "Right."
Samuel orders food for you and himself from the waitress.

> You order meat for the baby hyena.
The waitress brings your food and a drink for Samuel. You ask her for something for the baby, and she gives you some sort of meat, which you give to the baby.
Acorn: "Thank you."

> You eat.
The food isn't the best in the world, but it lasts so much longer than you'd expect.
After finishing your food, you ask Samuel: "Now what?"
Samuel: "We wait."

> You say "What do we wait for?"
Samuel shrugs.
Samuel: "I don't know. Whatever happens, happens."
Acorn: "Can't we do anything?"
Samuel: "Like what?

> You say "We should find a name for the baby hyena!"
You: "I like the name Tanya."
Samuel nods. "Tanya it is, then."
You: "Good choice.

> You pet the hyena.
You stroke Tanya's fur, which feels very different from a dog's fur.
Samuel whispers: "She likes you."

> You happy to hear it!
Tanya licks your hand for a while.
You: "So, I guess we wait."
Samuel nods.
Samuel: "Yep. We wait."
A while passes.

> You say "But what do we wait for?"
Samuel shrugs. "I don't know. Something, I suppose."
You: "Something like what?"
Samuel: "I don't know, Acorn, stop forcing me to make sense."

> You look sadly at the ground. You say : "Okay...."
Samuel notices you looking at the ground. "Why are you looking at the ground like that, Acorn?"
You: "Because I don't know what to do.

> You say "I don't know this place, we doesn't have a goal and... Everyone is weirdly looking at me..."
Samuel pats you on the back. "Don't worry about it, Acorn."
You look up in surprise. "What do you mean I shouldn't worry?

> You say "All these people... They know who I am, right?"
Samuel: "Yeah, everyone knows who you are. Everyone is curious about you, to be honest. You've become somewhat of a legend."
You: "A legend?"
Samuel nods seriously.

> You say "A bad legend then..."
Samuel: "Uh... No! Bad legendry!"
Samuel laughs.
You: "What do you mean?"
Samuel: "You're not a bad guy! You're great!"

> You say "I hope so... But all these people just know the old-me and not the new-me..."
Samuel nods. "Yeah, that's pretty much it."
Samuel: "Well, everyone is pretty curious about the new-you."
You: "What do you mean?

> You say "So they know I changed?"
Samuel nods. "Yeah, they know you became a friendly animal and all."
You: "A friendly animal?"
Samuel: "Yeah, pretty sure they know about that.

> You say "Why would you call me an animal, I'm a koblin, not an animal..."
Samuel laughs. "I meant that you're friendly in general. They know you used to be hostile to humans."
You: "Oh.

> You say "You're weird today, Samuel..."
Samuel: "I am? Oh, you know what, I must be getting old. I'm sorry for annoying you, Acorn.

> You say "You're not annoying me... Let's take a room for the night? We'll search for Kranxx tomorrow..."
Samuel nods. "Yeah, that's a good idea."
You: "OK..."
After the innkeeper gives you the keys and closes the door behind you, Samuel turns to you.
Samuel: "Well, this is a nice room. I've stayed in better places."
You smile. "I'm sure it is. Do you have any suggestions where to look for Kranxx?"
Samuel shrugs.

> You say "We'll think about it tomorrow!"

> You go in a tiny room next to the bedroom to take a bath.
Samuel nods. "Sure thing."
The bath is quite nice. The water is hot. The bath is tiny, but you've had worse places to sleep. You wash yourself, then sit down in the water.

> You stay for some times in the warm water.
You enjoy the sensation of warmth on your fur. You've never really stayed in a bath for so long before, but you are quite sleepy from all the excitement of the day and just sit back and relax. You feel that somebody is watching you...
You turn to look and find... nothing there. You get a little scared. There's no reason to be scared, it's just the mirror, reflecting your own reflection. It's not like anybody can get in the bath with you. You turn to look at your reflection again, and once more there is nobody there. Still, it makes you feel uncomfortable, like someone is staring at you...

> You say "Samuel, you want to hop in the bath with me, am I right?"
Samuel nods eagerly. You laugh.
"Samuel, you can't hop in the bath."

> You say "It's two tiny for two people!"
Samuel: "I'm not a giant, I can hop in a bath!"
Samuel hops in the bath with a squelch. You can barely fit in it.

> You laugh a bit and say : "You're incorrigible."
Samuel sticks his tongue out at you. You laugh a bit.
The two of you stay in the bath and have a nice, long soak.

> You look at Samuel, and say : "So, Sammi, did you hear about that new guild?"

> You say "I heard that everyone has the chance to enter it!"
Samuel nods eagerly. "Yeah! That's probably true. After all, it isn't like we have many other choices..."
You think about what Samuel said for a moment.

> You say "You want to enter the guild?"
Samuel looks at you. You can tell he's thinking about it.
Samuel: "Yeah... I'd like to join."
You: "Really? You would?"
Samuel nods, and smiles.

> You say "I'd like to join the guild too! But... I think we must impress them, so they will be taking us!"
Samuel bursts out laughing. "Oh, yeah! That! Yeah!"
You: "Samuel, don't you think we should prove ourselves before we join them?"
Samuel stops laughing.

> You say "We must find something really important, that have power, and that they can use too, at the guild!"
Samuel thinks for a moment, then bursts out laughing again. "Yeah, right!"
You: "What? I'm serious!"
Samuel shakes his head. "No... you're not really."

> You say "I am! Remember, the first time we met? I was searching for something. That's called "The book of essence"."
Samuel: "Oh, yeah! The book of essence! You're right!"
Samuel nods vigorously. "Yeah! That'd be good! They could use it, and we can too!

> You say "So now... We need to find where it is."

Samuel stares at you.
Samuel: "Yeah... I guess we do..."

> You sigh. "But first, let's sleep. We'll think about everything tomorrow!" you say.
Samuel yawns. "Yeah, you're right..."
You: "Night, Sammi."
Samuel nods, then closes his eyes.

> You say "... Are you going to sleep in the bath?"
You wait for a moment, but get no response.
You: "Sammi?"
There's no answer.
You: "Sammi?"
No response.

> You say "Well, I guess it's a yes then..."
You sigh, then lie down in the bed.
You: "Good night, Sammi..."
You close your eyes.
Once you fall asleep, you have a strange dream...
You are at the beach. It is a hot, sunny day. You walk along the seashore, looking at the beautiful blue sea. Suddenly, you see a winged being diving into the water. It looks like a fairy, but you've never seen one before. You walk towards the sea, following the fairy. As you do so, you notice a young woman sitting by the seashore. She has long, golden hair and dazzling sea-blue eyes. She is wearing a long white dress, and seems to be in a trance. Suddenly, the fairy emerges from the water in front of the woman. In a moment, she is in the fairy's hands. They embrace, and then the fairy kisses the woman on the lips. The woman starts and wakes with a start. She screams in terror as she sees you there. You feel pity for her, and you want to help her. You know this fairy woman has great love for the fairy, but that the fairy must leave now. You call out to her.
"Do not be afraid."
The woman stares at you, terrified. The screams have brought a man with a net. He struggles with the net, which is full of fish. As he struggles, another man appears, holding a large oar. He begins to row towards the woman.
"Leave me!" she screams.
The fairy is pulling at a thread in the fairy's body, but it won't give.
"Leave me!" she screams again as the fairy is pulled deeper into her body.
The man with the net plunges a fishing line into the fairy, then pulls up whatever fish the line catches. The other man aims the oar at the fairy.
"Leave me alone!" the woman screams.
"Leave me alone!" the fairy screams.
The man with the oar strikes the fairy with his oar, and she disappears in a flash of light.
You scream as the fairy is pulled out of sight.
You awaken with a start. You are lying in the bed, trembling. Samuel is standing over you, shaking his head slowly.
"What?" you ask.
Samuel: "Nothing."

> You say "I had a weird dream..."
Samuel nods solemnly.
"Yeah, dreams can be weird things."
You think for a moment.
"What do you think it means?" you ask.
Samuel shrugs his shoulders.

> You say "There were a fairy and a woman kissing, then a guy came with a fish net and try to catch fish from the fairy, and another guy came with an oar to beat the fairy with it..."
"I don't know about all that," he says. "But did you have a feeling of dread?"
You think for a moment.
"Yes," you say, finally.
Samuel nods.

> You say "Do you know anything about a fairy?"
Samuel shrugs.

> You say "Maybe it was just a random dream after all..."
You sigh, then nod.
"It was just a dream," you say.
Samuel nods, then yawns loudly.

> You say "What time is it?"
"Nearly dawn," Samuel says.
"Oh," you say.
You stand up, stretching. It's still early, and you have yet to complete what you came here to do.

> You stand up, and search for Tanya in the bedroom. She's sleeping on a carpet.
Tanya is a hyena.
You are Acorn.
You walk around the bedroom, searching for Tanya. Suddenly, you remember that she was to sleep in there.

> You pet Tanya.
Tanya is a hyena. Tanya's coat is short and soft. It is brown and white, like hornbeam bark.
"Hey, girl," you say.
Tanya yawns, and looks up at you. She is cute and playful, and you wan't to keep her that way.

> You say "The morning's coming, let's wake up!"
Tanya sleeps under the bed. Tanya is sleepy, and doesn't want to wake up just yet.

> You say "Come one!"
Tanya sleeps under the bed.
"Come on, get up," you say.
Tanya sleeps under the bed.

> You poke Tanya's nose.
Tanya sleeps under the bed.
"Come on, wake up!" you say, poking Tanya in the nose.
Tanya yawns, and stretches.

> You look at Samuel, waiting for him to say something.
"Morning, Samuel."
"Good morning, Acorn," Samuel replies.
He sits there, as still as a statue.

> You say "So now... what are we doing?"
"I was waiting for you to ask me that," Samuel replies.
"Well, I'm ready to go back to the village," you reply.
"What?" he asks.

> You say "It's the first place I heard about the book of essence. If I return to this village, maybe we'll get more informations to find it!"
"That's a rather vague statement," Samuel points out. "We have no idea where the village is."
"It probably isn't too far away from here.

> You say "Also I lived in that village, I will find it again!"
Samuel nods.
"I believe you will."
You stand up slowly.
"Should we prepare some things to eat first?" you ask.
Samuel nods.

> You go into the inn's kitchen, and ask one of the cook if you can buy food.
One of the cooks, a short, balding man with a brown beard, comes to the kitchen.
"Can I help you?" he asks.
"I'd like to buy some food," you reply.
"There's no food to buy. We're all out," the cook says.
"Oh, okay..." you say, before leaving and going back to Samuel and Tanya.
"That man says there's no food to buy."
"Hmm... do we have any food left?"
You look around, before spotting a jar of honey.

> You say "Do that honey belong to us?"
"Oh! Yeah, we got some jars of honey. We're going to have to sell it, no way we can eat it all."

> You say "We could keep it until we get in my old village, then sell it there?"
"Good idea," Samuel nods.
You take the jar of honey, and hide it in your bag.
You, Samuel and Tanya then leave the inn. You've exit the city, and are now in the wilderness. It's midday, which means you should reach your old village by nightfall.
Samuel leads the way, as you walk along the road. After about an hour, you begin to see the trees thin out.
"This used to be a orchard," Samuel says.

> You say "What's an orchard?"
"A place where they grow apples, pears, plums, and other fruit trees."
You see a large patch of barren land beside the road.

> You sadly say : "What happened here?"
"Orcs. They destroyed the orchard, and stole all the fruit."
"Why would they do that?" you ask.
"No one knows. They're savage, wicked creatures. They do terrible things."
Samuel scoffs at this, but says no more about it. Soon, you see the village in the distance. It has gone. All that's left is a mass of burnt and destroyed huts, with a few still burning.
"That's it!" Samuel says.

> You look at the village in shock, then run toward it.

The village is now a burnt and ruined husk of what it once was. The thatched roofs have fallen in, the thatch has burnt away to ash.

> You call : "Is there anyone still alive?"
No one replies, but you can hear the sound of sobbing coming from the village.
"It's probably survivors", Samuel says. "If there's any."
Samuel continues walking towards the village.

> You try to localize the sound of the sobbing.
You hear the sound of sobbing coming from through a nearest burnt out hut.

> You approach slowly that burnt house. "Eh, are you okay?" you ask, but you can't see the sobbing person.
A little girl, no older than five, comes out from behind the rubble. She
isn't hurt, so you assume she must have been hiding in the rubble all this time.
"Are you okay?" you ask again.
"My mommy and daddy are dead."
"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that."
"Why did you burn our house?

> You say "We didn't burn the houses, we have just come here."
"You must have the Demons. They are the evil ones."
"Demons? No, there are no demons here."
"Are you sure? I saw one outside the window!

> You say "Did you see it now? That may have been Samuel..."
"Samuel is the guy with the sheet on him. You can see his head, from here."
A pause.
"Oh! You're one of the wandering people. The ones who came and took my mommy and daddy away!"

> You say "Samuel can't be one, he was with me this whole time... Who are the wandering people?"
"The wandering people. They take mommies and daddies away. That's why I have to stay here."
You think for a second.

> You say "They seemed to have taken the whole village away... Is there any other survivors?"
"There is still one other person left in the village."
"Oh, who is it?"
"The doctor."
"The doctor?"
"Yes. He is a bad man. He kills people."

> You remember the doctor. When you were younger and living in this village, he always took care of you when you were sick. You always found him a bit weird, but he wasn't mean. "The doctor heals people, he doesn't kill them." you say to the little girl.
"He kills people." she replies.
"Maybe so, but he hasn't killed anyone today. He's a doctor, that means he saves people."
"Yes, but he kills people in other villages."

> You say "Were you already sick?"
"I was sick, but now I'm not. The doctor fixed me."
"Do you know how he fixed you?"
"Yes, I know. He used a needle and some medicine.

> You say "You see? He fixed your sickness, so he's not a mean man!"
"Then why did he take my mommy and daddy away?"

> You look at Samuel with despair. You doesn't know how to handle the problem, and hope that Samuel can do something about it.
Samuel walks up to the little girl and puts his hand on her shoulder.
"I don't know... it's complicated."
You nod, dropping your shoulders.

> You ask Samuel : "Maybe we should go see the doctor to ask him what happened here?"
"Maybe we should."

> You turn toward the little girl. "Hey, we're going to see what's going on with the doctor. I'm sure you don't want to follow us to his house, so you can stay here and play with Tanya if you want."
"Okay..."
You nod and watch Tanya playfully running around the little girl, and take your leave with Samuel in the direction of the doctor's house.

> You say "I'm sure the doctor has nothing to do with what happened here..."
"Yeah, and that's why we need to find out for sure."
You nod in agreement, but Samuel looks uncomfortable.
"Are you okay?" you ask, confused.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine."
He starts swinging his knapsack, still not making eye contact.
"Samuel...?"
Finally, he stops and makes eye contact, although he still smiles.
"I'm just a little worried about finding out what happened here.

> You say "Me too..."
"We'll find out what happened, and then we can fix it."
You nod in agreement. Samuel smiles at you.
"I have to say, I'm really glad you found me." he says.

> You say "Really?"
"Yeah. It's pretty exciting, finding a new village. Its even better when you find an old one."

> You say "Even if the village in question is burnt to ashes?"
"I... think there might be some survivors."
You and Samuel share a look of uncertainty.

> You say "Well, there are the little girl and the doctor, but who else...?"

> You arrive in front of the doctor's house with Samuel. "Hello, doctor? It's me, Glandu. Well, now my name is Acorn, but that's a long story..."
You knock on the door. There's a loud squeaking from within, which the doctor soon opens up, a suspicious scowl on his face.
"What do you want?

> You say "The village burnt, and we don't know what happened. You seem to be the only survivor, with a little girl we found earlier..."
"I see." the doctor says. "I have my suspicions as to what happened here, but I need to gather more evidence..."
He stares at you for a while.

> You are a bit uncomfortable.
"Well, can you tell us what happened? The little girl seems pretty scared."
"Hmm... I'll tell you what happened... but first, you have to promise not to tell anyone about this."

> You glance at Samuel, then say : "Okay...?"
"Promise?"
You nod silently. The doctor sighs.
"Alright. Come on in."
You and Samuel enter the house, and the doctor closes the door behind you.
"As I suspected. The village was destroyed by an attack from another plane of existence. Creatures from the infernal realm, as it were."
You and Samuel's mouths hang open in unison.

> You say "The... Infernal realm?"
"Yes."

> You say "How could something come from another plane of existence? And how would you know that?"
"Because, I've been to the infernal realm."
You can't believe it.
"You've... you've been to the infernal realm?

> You say "But... How?! Why? "
The doctor cuts you off.
"How I got there? It was a long story."
You and Samuel share a look of confusion, before the doctor continues.
"As for why these creatures are here, I have my suspicions..."
The doctor pauses, and looks around nervously.
"Well, I suppose I shouldn't tell you that."
" Tell us what?"

> You say "You already said a lot, I think you can continue..."
The doctor sighs, and smiles.
"Well, these creatures are hunters. They seek out spots in the multiverse where powerful beings like myself can be found, so they can drain us of our power.

> You say "You are a powerful beeing...? Aren't you just human?"
"No, I'm much more powerful than a mere human."

> You look at Samuel with confusion, wondering what the doctor could be. "Why didn't you ever told this anyone?" you ask to the doctor.

"I did, years ago, when I was younger. Back then, I didn't know I was more powerful than a mere human."

> You say "And... What about the multiverse you were talking about?"
"Oh, yes. Sorry. I should probably explain what I know about that too."
The doctor goes on to tell you and Samuel about the multiverse. He explains that your world is just one of countless parallel realities. Most are very similar to yours, with the exception of the supernatural and maybe a few other random things.

> You say "So the hunters came here and burnt the village because they were searching you?"
"Yes. They came here a few years ago as well. I managed to escape that encounter."

> You say "What should we do?"
The doctor stares at you.

> You say "There way be a way to find the creatures and made them revive the villagers or I don't know..."
"Well, the infernal realm is full of negative and chaotic creatures. We could go there and try to seek help from such beings."
"But why not use your powers to make them leave?" Samuel asks.

> You say "True, if you're really that powerful..."
"I'm not trying to boast, but I'm not sure if I can safely use my powers in this realm to send those creatures away."

> You say "Are you sure you have powers...?"
The doctor reaches into his pocket and pulls out a lighter.
"I have these."
You look at the lighter in surprise.
"That's it?"
"As far as I know."

> You say "What actually is this?"
The doctor replies in confusion. "A lighter."
Samuel looks at the lighter too and then grins. "That is something you use to light stuff, right doctor? Turn it on."
The doctor flips it open and presses down on the button. Nothing happens.
"It's broken."
"No it isn't, you just forgot to push the button on.

> You wonder if the doctor did tell the truth.
"I'd wager you are just bad at using it, doc."

> You say "You said you've got in the infernal realm, but how did you do that?"
"Infernal realm, infernal realm, stop swearing. You know what, it's an interesting story, I'll tell you."
"Hey doc? We're listening." You say, hoping the doc is going to tell you the story.
"As I said, the infernal realm is full of chaos, anger and negative feelings. Demons are probably there right now, just waiting to get out. I was lucky enough to find a portal that led here."

> You say "Okay, but how did you get in the infernal realm in the first place?"
"A succubus, as they are often called."
You and Samuel both stare in confusion at the doctor.

> You say "A succubus is not a way to enter the realm, or I'm missing something..."
"Yes, a succubus is indeed how one enters the infernal realm. I made the mistake of having a tryst with a succubus and she made it quite clear I wasn't meant to leave."

> You say "How did you encountered a succubus...?"
"Long story."
The doctor goes into a brief description of how he ended up in his current situation.
"So one day I was treating a demonologist for minor self inflicted wounds, when I offered him an experimental magic salve I had been working on. I had actually meant to use it on myself, but I figured the patient needed it more, so here I am."
"Magic salve?" You say, remembering something similar you read in a book once.

> You say "What's a magic salve?"
The doctor explains the magic salve he created, which can easily remove most common types of curses.

> You say "But that doesn't explain how you encountered the succubus..."
"I know, it's a long story. Now it's your turn."
"Did I do something wrong?" Samuel asks.
"Nah, you're fine. I'll get to it. As I said, the succubus appeared before me and made it quite clear she wanted me to give her something inside a chest. Naturally, I was confused, and asked her what it was. She..." The doctor pauses to think. "She... Teased me. A lot. I got so turned on I almost let her take me right there."
Samuel's eye gives a twinkle.
"I did indeed have a very intimate relationship with a succubus."

> You glance at Samuel with a disapproving frown.
"I'm sure you did," you say.
"I'm not finished!" The doctor shouts. "Eventually she told me to follow her, and we went to a cave in the hills." The Doctor rubs his hands together eagerly. "And there, in the cave, was a large, creepy skeletal face."
"A haunted cave!" Samuel says. "Tell us the rest of the story, doctor. Tell us what happened!"
"The face spoke to me. It said that I was a fool to think I could stop it. It would spread until then believe that everyone was a fool.

> You say "Why was it saying that?"
"The spell it was casting would prevent anyone but a fool from stopping it. And fools follow demons."
"What happened next?
"Well, it certainly scared me. The face started to laugh, and the ground shook a bit. Then, it happened."
"What happened?"
"The mine collapsed," The doctor says, with a look of great dejection.

> You say "And you entered the infernal realm?"
"Correct."
You look at each other, before turning to the Doctor.
"What do we do now? I didn't get that much."
"We need to go back, I need to go back," The Doctor says. "I need to finish the cure."
"But what can we do?" Samuel asks. "The demonic realm is vast. I don't think we'll ever find the cave again."

> You say "What are we going to do when we found the hunters? Is there anything we can do about the villagers that died here?"
"I don't know..."
Suddenly, Samuel brightens up.
"I know! We could go to the Emperor for help! He's the only one who can stop this!"

> You say "Is there any emperor now?"
"There's still the one in the Kingdom of Man. He's a strong leader, and he rules an empire. Not like we have any rivals anymore..."
You put a hand to your ear.
"Hmm... nah, the Emperor wouldn't want our help anyway."
"Why not? The devil is bound to earth. We're the ones who freed him! He'll thank us!"

> You say "Did he knew the previous emperor from here?"
"I think so. Yes. No. I'm not sure. He was last seen in the Kingdom of Man, or so I've heard."
"Send him a letter saying we need his help.

> You say "And ask him if he knew Kyros so I know if I'm screwed-up."
"Yeah, sure."
The doctor nods, and writing a letter, he sits down to write it to the Emperor.
A few weeks later, there's a reply.
The reply is a bit.... Reasonable.

> You read the reply.
The Emperor's letter states that he's sorry for your losses. He says that he won't be able to send assistance unfortunately; the hunter's guild is still repairing its losses from the last invasion, and the peasants are still suffering food shortages. The Emperor says he will send a message over the most respected hunter's guilds, and they will be to arrive soon.
Until then, he wishes you good luck.
Samuel grunts in reply.
"Well, I guess we go get 'em," He says.
You have the feeling that this whole thing was pretty pointless.

> You say "So we need to wait for the guild to come? Why didn't the Emperor answer about the Kyros question in the reply..."
"I guess he said it wasn't important."
"It is!" You exclaim, a little too loudly.

> You say "What if he send the guild not to help us but because he knows I'm here and wants me to be killed?!"
The Doctor raises an eyebrow, before a small giggle escapes his lips.
"Well then, we'll need to be even more proactive then," He replies, before laughing.

> You are not sure how to react to that...
The Doctor and Samuel continue to laugh as you stand there, a little confounded. Finally, Samuel sobers up.

> You say "What if he doesn't know that I'm not Kyros anymore...?"
Samuel nods.
"Then, we'll need to be even more proactive then, too."
You nod. The three of you are in complete agreement on this.

> You say "I'm a bit afraid..."
Samuel smiles, placing a hand on your shoulder.
"Don't worry. We'll get through this."

> You say "I hope so..."
"Now, now. All done. No need to worry. You're with me here. The Emperor wouldn't dream of doing anything to you that would cause you pain, I'm sure."

> You say "Yeah..."
You look at the two of them, still a bit frightened. They're all looking back calmly.
"Well then, let's go!" The Doctor says, standing up.

> You look at the little girl and Tanya, who came in the Doctor's house the day you sent the letter to the Emperor.

The little girl looks about five years old, with fair skin and very long, curly brown hair. She's holding a dandelion in her hands, and staring at the ground. Tears are streaming down her cheeks.

> You say "You shouldn't let her alone here..."
"I'm coming with you!" The Doctor says.
He goes to the back, and comes up with a large knapsack.

> You say "I was talking about the girl..."
"What about her?"
Samuel gives you a puzzled look.

> You say "She's too young to stay alone here, is she coming with us? There's no one else in the village to take care of her..."
The Doctor pauses, and furrows his eyebrows.
"There's a hermit in the woods nearby. If we manage to find him, he might take her in."
Samuel nods slowly.

> You say "I didn't remember there was a hermit in the forest..."
"There isn't. He just appears there every once in a while. They're called specters."
"Oh. Specters."

> You say "Wait, why would you give the girl to a specter?!"
The Doctor sighs, and starts packing up some medical supplies into his knapsack.
"I'll explain on the way. We need to leave soon.

> You say "Okay..."
"Now, let's get the hell out of here!" The Doctor says loudly, and opens the door.
Samuel nods, and starts putting on his pack.

> You follow the Doctor.
You follow Samuel into the forest. The trees are so high that you can barely see through them. In some places, it seems like they must be touching the sky.
The five of you walk through the trees for a while, until you come across a large man, wearing a ragged robe. He has a bald head and a goatee beard.
"Who are you?"
